Today, I have been honored with some amazingly creative, well written and thought provoking pieces offered for posting on this site by some of Bones‘ biggest fans. I have laughed with our guest bloggers and I have been made to see some things a bit differently than before. Personally, I have enjoyed every one of the articles contributed by these dedicated and talented people.
I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time out of your busy schedules to write and contribute articles to help support our Charity Blog-Off.
So what do the rest of you think of the guest posts we’ve received today? Should I plan to do another marathon blogging day sometime in the future? I’d love to know what you think!
What is your opinion of the 24hour Charity Blog-Off and its guest bloggers?

In a funny twist of fate, Emily Deschanel is not on the Maxim Hot 100 list this year, but she is on the AfterEllen Hot 100 list. Does that mean that she’s more attractive to women than to men? (I find it hard to believe…) Surely, she is incredibly attractive to both men & women! Perhaps this year, the men weren’t paying enough attention! ;-)
And what’s up with her sister making the Maxim list and Emily making the AfterEllen.com list? It’s all very interesting, but I say that it’s always a good thing to be considered attractive.
Congratulations, Emily!!

Jamie Frevele lives in New York where she writes for Huffington Post & Newsday. She became hooked on Bones during a short period of unemployment. She says that she became bored and picked up the Bones DVDs. She watched seasons 1 and 2 nonstop and instantly “fell in love with the uniquely character-driven procedural comedy drama.” She also writes her own blog, http://flummoxology.blogspot.com
Wendy Young lives in Louisville, TN. She’s one of the fans Bones picked up during the strike hiatus, actually. She started watching on Hulu in early 2008 and quickly watched everything they had to offer, then bought the S1 and S2 DVD sets. The show completely hooked her and she’s seen every episode more than once. As for work, I she’s a Jill-of-all-trades at an engineering firm. Wendy writes her own blog, http://obsessedwithbones.blogspot.com/
Wendy and Jamie discuss how bad they feel that Bones creator Hart Hanson thinks that the show has a “negative Internet presence” and why we think he needs a hug.
JAMIE: Wendy, that article really upset me, the one on Blogcritics.
WENDY: I know. Hearing bad things about Bones is really not the kind of press I like to see.
JAMIE: It’s like Hart Hanson is the Willie Randolph of Bones. Except the season finale actually had high ratings as opposed to having an historic collapse and he wasn’t fired at 3 AM.
WENDY: Other than that, you’re right - exactly alike.
JAMIE: Don’t sass me, Wendy. But seriously, the whole tone he took - I think he needs a hug.
WENDY: I agree. We can’t help it if we don’t proclaim our love as loudly as the detractors proclaim their hate. Sorrreeeee - if we love the show, we’re going to be grammatically correct, spell check and engage in lively and civilized discussion.
JAMIE: We could change our ways. How about this: OMG i cant beliv he did that 2 zak but i like 2tle respect tha cre8v deciszion that wuz made WOOOOOOOOOOOO booth iz sooooooooo hotttttttt
WENDY: “2tle”?
JAMIE: That was “totally.” I tried.
WENDY: Oh, right. Yeah, I don’t want to do that.
JAMIE: Yeah, me neither.
WENDY: Don’t get me wrong, David Boreanaz is quite attractive.
JAMIE: I concur. Though I honestly think they’re all hot.
WENDY: It’s a good-looking cast. But this Hart thing is bothering me.

Before I found Bones, which is relatively late compared to many of you, I had a LOST day and then a Heroes day, but nothing has provoked the same response as the words “It’s Bonesday!”
Right now, the week starts with Bonesday and I’m frankly a little sad that is changing this fall. Replacing the ‘Muhndays’ with Bonesdays makes that killer week-starter more bearable, even happy. ‘Humpday’ is already moderately happy and might resist being supplanted as it already overthrew Wednesday many moons ago. But I (really) digress…
Part of Bonesday fun is the Bonesnight rituals. For me it’s fairly simple. My ritual consists of my husband, me, and sometimes the cat, camped out on our bed. My husband usually lays down, wearily protecting any exposed body parts from devious kitty divebombs of teeth and fur as she displays her angst at the lack of attention. If she isn’t assaulting him she is likely laying between us (somewhat) patiently waiting for her due attention or frantically pushing her cold, wet nose into my exposed elbow demanding that attention she believes she deserves.
And what am I doing?
Ideally, I’m raptly enjoying every new Bones moment while I frantically jot down notes for the frighteningly long reviews for my blog. (If we want to go top-notch ideal we’d give me the human encyclopedia-esq memory so I could just enjoy the show and pop my deeeeeply insightful reviews up the same night but we’ll leave a dash of realism.) Here on Earth, I’m batting at the cat and trying to remember to be nice to my husband when he asks questions during the show. And if I happen to forget to scribble down a line or two because I’m laughing too much or too heartbroken to remember to move my hand, well…it can’t all be perfect.
What’s your Bonesday or Bonesnight ritual? Do you lock yourself in a room? Do you arrange a babysitter? Or are you forced to record it and fiercely hope and pray that no one will spoil it?

It is no secret that I was not the least bit happy with the Season 3 finale of Bones. However, as I said in that article I so blatantly self-promoted just now, I still love the show, and I’m looking forward to a new season in which we can patch things up and do our favorite show some justice after a spotty season. Here’s what I want to see addressed in Season 4:
The biggest of the big f@!#ing deals: Explain what happened to Zack Addy. We were sideswiped by the connection to Gormagon, and even more shocked by hearing he’d killed someone, especially when we all totally saw someone else jumping out of the lobbyist’s closet, apparently leaping towards the lobbyist that Zack confessed to killing. Look, I have a loooooooooong post on my own blog about what I think could have happened before, during and after the finale episode. But unfortunately, I am not on the writing staff. I’m just a fan. (Who happens to be a writer.) But we, the audience, need an explanation for why. And I’ll bet it includes the storyline that should have never been shelved, the Iraq storyline. Fix this.
Bring back the Angelator: Um, where was it this season? Did I miss it completely? It was easily one of the coolest things on the show. And don’t even tell me Gormagon stole that too, because I will throw a fit.
Resolve Hodgela: I know this was all supposed to happen last season, but the strike made it rough. I understand. It screwed up your whole season. But seriously, either get these two married or call off the marriage. Not the relationship necessarily, unless that’s what’s already happened. But have them go back to Angela’s original plan - let them be in love. And at peace.
More focus on the cases: This one is actually negotiable. I’ve been revisiting the older episodes, and I noticed that there was a lot more focus on how the squints solved the cases. It feels as if the shift has been towards the characters, particularly Booth and Bones, but that’s completely understandable for an ever-evolving show. That’s why I’m flexible on this one. It just felt like the early episodes gave about 70% to the crime and 30% to the characters, but now it’s switched in favor of the characters. I love the characters. But you know where you screwed this up? When you failed to focus on the character you were writing off. That said…
No more serial killers, or at least less of them: Gormagon is resolved, at least until the Zacksplanation we are owed, but now you’ve also got the Gravedigger that we haven’t forgotten about. To say nothing of Howard Epps spanning Seasons 1 & 2. This is purely my opinion, but isn’t that a bit excessive? Three serial killers, two of them overlapping?
Ahem - Bones and Booth totally made out, and no one said a word about it: Yeah. Let’s maybe address this. Did they like it? (Um, I think, probably, yes.) Well? What else? While I will argue that it’s wrong to hook them up, I think they should at least talk about why they haven’t thus far. And then, if I’m right, why they won’t, or if everyone else is right, why they will.
Have I mentioned…: That you have got to fix the Zack thing? Seriously. We’re all really pissed about that.
Extra Credit: Make Sweets a killer. Bring back Dr. Goodman (Jonathan Adams). And don’t deny us more Caroline Julian (Patricia Belcher), David Barron (Ernie Hudson) and Dr. Wyatt (Stephen Fry).

Hurray!! I found this video clip of the scene Michaela Conlin did for the movie Enchanted. This is the scene that didn’t make it to the final cut. :-(
I had been wondering what we missed. And of course, Michaela was wonderful in it. (Gee, there is a bit of a similarity to her Bones character, Angela…she’s the star’s romantic confidant…)
Nevertheless, I think they should have left it in. What do you think?

Well, not exactly. Sophie, a Bones fan in France, sent me the tip about this article. If you can read French, you are in luck because you can go read the article. Alas, it’s been far too many years since I had to read French and my skills are too rusty to give you a really good translation.
However, wonderful Sophie tells me that during one of his interviews at the TV Festival in Monaco last week, David Boreanaz said that he doesn’t want to take part in any future Buffy movies and that he isn’t interested in reprising his role as Angel.
But thank goodness, he’s still enjoying playing Seeley Booth!!

Recently, the b5media Channel Editor, Arieanna visited the Banff World Television Festival in Alberta. Among the speakers at the event was none other than Hart Hanson, Executive Producer Bones. She covered his talk in great detail over on our MediaScribbler blog, so I strongly suggest you head over there to read all about what he had to say.
Some of the more fascinating tidbits he revealed in the talk involve just how the show was cast. First, I was interested to find out that Eric Millegan was the first to be cast in the show, then the other “squints” TJ Thyne and Michaela Conlin. He said that he had a more difficult time finding the two leads.
He was looking for a young actress who would be believable as an scientist, but four days before shooting was to begin, she was still not cast. David Boreanaz was offered as a suggestion by the then head of FOX and Hart was instantly ready to sign him. But what about the femaile lead? Hart tells us:
“And in came Emily [Deschanel], who is tall, has a deep voice. She has gravity. And she was young, she was 30 at the time. And so you could believe in her as a scientist, which was kind of tough with some of the actresses we saw… and it turned out that she could be funny. And she looks like Grace Kelly.”
“David had another actress he liked, that he thought should be the lead. David’s a very strong-willed man. So he… I wouldn’t say sabotage… he challenged Emily to rise to the occasion by advancing on her.
David’s about 6′1″, and about 200 lbs of shoulders with pecs attached, and the ‘package’ and knees… very, very… he’s a guy… And he advanced on her in the network test. And Emily stepped into it. She stepped right toward him. And then they had one of the exchanges that we used in the pilot. And it was when even a thick-head like me went ‘whoa.’”
And suddenly, the show’s dynamics had changed. Originally, the female lead was supposed to work with various cops, not just Booth. He was originally only supposed to be in about half the season. But when the chemistry between the two actors was so clear, everything changed. It’s now mostly about the relationship between Booth & Bones. (Aren’t we all glad??)
You should read Arieanna’s account of this part of Hart’s talk, but surprisingly, before the writers’ strike abbreviated the season, Zack was supposed to be a victim of Gormagon, not his apprentice!!! WOW!! If we think it’s shocking the way the season ended, wouldn’t that have been much worse? (I look forward to your comments on that one!!)
And when asked to speak about the season 4 premiere that is currently shooting in London, Hart said this:
“The challenge was to create a seamless episode which would have a big fat seam in it… oh wait, I just said semen. I was trying not to say that.”
Having had the great fortune to be able to speak with Hart Hanson myself in the past, I can tell you that he is a delightful person. I wish I could have been there for the session, but thankfully, Arieanna did an amazing job of getting the scoop for us!

Thanks so much to Lost_Girl for giving us the heads-up on this photo montage from the London taping of Bones. How exciting to see photos so fresh from the taping location!
We get a glimpse of the decomposed body found in the car that was pulled out of the water and a lot of great behind the scenes shots of both David Boreanaz & Emily Deschanel. Check it out:
